Informal showing at the end of the workshop.

Sylvie Tourangeau’s pedagogy is rooted in presence practices initiated Meredith Monk’s right-hand man: Pablo Vela, in Osho’s dynamic meditation, in the authentic attitude favoured by the techniques of Jorge Luis Gioia Soma, in the deployment of an action in the here and now provided by BBB Johaness Deimling, Jean Dupuy, Esther Ferrer, in interrelationships between structure, body, and the subject advocated by Jean-Francois Pirson, and in some techniques of concentration and endurance from Butoh taught by Yumiko Yoshioka and Mario Veillette. Through a gradual learning, practical exercises, presentations with instructions, dynamic feedback, constructive comments, individual coaching in front of the group, and explanations of some basic concepts, participants experience the consciousness of the actual moment, the state of mind, the authentic presence, gesture channelling, and structuring performative actions.

Sylvie Tourangeau has been actively interested in performance art since 1978. She has been involved as a performer, an author and a workshop facilitor. She attempts to bring the powers of transformation into being and to transmit them through various forms of human presence such as integrity, intimacy, added value produced by the meeting of differences, social belonging and the envolving power of our perception of the present moment. Her performance art practice involves a certain amount of risk; such as modifying her actions at any given moment, testing her endurance in particular physical positions, sustaining a dialogue with an active spectator, etc. Although these risks may not be spectacular in nature they never fail to bring us back to the essential issues of direct communication.
